Now showing at Toscana Studio and Gallery, “Hunting Party” is acrylic painting on canvas that was painted from a photographs I took of the Harris Hawks in an agave bloom. We have a large blue agave blooming in the front yard. The bloom is about 40′ tall and the Harris Hawks love sitting in it and surveying the land for their next meal. Some days, they are there for hours and other days they are there for just a few minutes. Usually it is one or two Harris Hawks on the agave. The day I was taking the photos that I used for the painting they stayed for quite a while. Some days they fly off before I get one photo. This is the first time I’ve painted Harris Hawks and it was quite a challenge to get all the feathers right. I’m not familiar with painting hawks and have a lot to learn.
Here is the photo I used for the painting:
The painting is 8″ wide by 24″ tall, 1 1/2″ thick and I have painted all the sides. It would fine a small narrow wall quite nicely. I have included photos the three main sides. The top and bottom of the canvas don’t have a lot of details.
