My image Hello Mellow Yellow was accepted for the “In Full Bloom Show” at Tohono Chul Park. The opening reception is Feb. 19, 2016, from 5:20 to 7:30 pm.
I’m so excited to have a pictures in this show. Tohono Chul Park has a special place in my heart. My Spanish Barb Horse Enrique de Dragoon was a docent there. When he was young I would take him to the park and give talks about the Spanish Barb horses. It was so much fun and he was such a good boy.
Now back to my entry for the “In Full Bloom Show.” This image is of the center of a barrel cactus flower. The barrel cactus flowers bloom in the summer and are a riot of color. They range in color from pink, to orange, coral, red, and yellow. It is hard to get great photos of them as they don’t open fully until the sun is high. When they open they are full of bees and other bugs. Often photos of the flowers are blown out (too much light) or the petals are frayed from the bugs. On this image I hand painted in the areas that were too light so it is considered Digital Art. If you look close you can see the pollen on the flower petals.
I’m looking forward to the reception and seeing all the beautiful desert flowers.
